GLACIAR PERITO MORENO
TOURS AND TRIPS EL CALAFATE
Duration: 8 hours
Rate: AR$ 50

The tour to Perito Moreno Glacier leaves from El Calafate. After a 45-minute trip, it is possible to buy the tickets and access the Park. Twenty minutes later, visitors will start seeing the white walls of the lake plunging into Lake Argentino.

Los Glaciares Park and Natural Reserve was declared World (Natural) Heritage Site by UNESCO. It includes Lakes Viedma and Argentino and nearby areas, and also part of the ice field from which Moreno, Onelli, Agassiz, and Upsala glaciers originate, with a front of 5 km (3 mi.). The Perito Moreno glacier descends to Argentino Lake, and its 35-kilometer (21 mi.) long and 70-meter (230 ft.) high wall above water level can be admired, with its vibrant colors ranging from white to turquoise.

From the parking lot, visitors start walking down along wooden pathways located in front of the glacier walls. These pathways allow them to watch the glacier from three levels: the upper balcony enables a panoramic view of the entire ice field, the middle one offers visitors a good sight at glacier wall level, and the lower balcony is at lake level. It is common to hear ice blocks falling, making a furious roar, amplified by the wall.

By the side of the parking lot, a small food and drink store can be found, where visitors can buy meals to be later enjoyed on the footbridge area while watching the glacier. At about 3 p.m, visitors are taken back to El Calafate by bus.
